Dissertation Chapter Transition

-- 2014-10-27
I’ve been reading doctoral dissertations online, and I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions for how I could end the literature review chapter to transition into the methodology chapter. Is there a smooth way of doing this?

The literature review is supposed to support your thesis as well as reveal the gaps in the area of focus that you want to study. Say your hypothesis statement is "the interaction effect of a and b causes c." In your literature review you discuss all the research studies you found about how a causes c, and about how b causes c, then you hypothesize that the interaction of and b might also cause c. Hence, the transition section could discuss how there is no literature yet supporting that hypothesis, and that is what your study will attempt to investigate. Then you would then transition to your methodology describing in detail how you will go about investigating your hypothesis.
