Cubism was considered to be a revolutionary style when it was developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. The style, one of the most important of the 20th century, flourished between 1907 and 1914, was defined by its artists’ simultaneous presentation of different views of the same object – often showing that object to be in the process of disintegrating and being reconfigured. Cubists tended to merge figure and ground into a single plane and to downplay the importance of palette.
