This paper examines the article by Warren Motley regarding Willa Cather's classic novel "O Pioneer". It takes a critical look at Motley's dis-section of cather's work regarding the central charecter (Alexandra)and suggests that the cost to Alexandra's psychic development was too high a price to pay for the successes she had in her life. this author agrees in part, but not entirely and this paper explains why.
