This paper discusses Hernando de Soto's The Other Path. The Invisible Revolution in the Third World. Soto persuasively demonstrates the potential of private sector growth. He shows that the main obstacles to such growth are weak social and political institutions. Thus, we begin to understand that the free market can only work right if it exists in a society that has developed its institutions.
