This paper discusses the novel by James Baldwin Go Tell it on the Mountain. This novel was an important work because it expressed the voice of those who could not express themselves within the American Black community in the 1950s. The novel contributed to the social consciousness of the nation, as it raised certain sensitive issues regarding the Black experience in white America. In many respects, this is why the novel can be seen as an important piece of work, in the sense that it contributed to the education of the society, expressed the feelings of those who could not express their own feelings, and raised the consciousness of those who felt alienated and marginalized. 6 pgs. 2 f/c. 3b.
