SUMMARY: This paper discusses three different children's books: Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park, and Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos. Each story is discussed in detail with a short paragraph about the authors. Each book is special in different ways. The first book can be summed up in that Bud has his own suitcase filled with important secret things. The boy's mother never told him who his real father was. Bud runs away from foster homes to seek out his father. The second book is a story about pottery and a Korean orphan child. The child is fascinated with the master potter. Many of the terms are important in discussing pottery or ceramics. Jack Gantos book is about Joey, a young boy with ADHD. Children with ADHD are often misunderstood and they feel that they are alone in the world of the classroom. This book is excellent for anyone with ADHD or someone who has ADHD in the family.
