This paper explores the concept "most mergers and acquisitions fail" not because of problems with the original deal but possibly because of expectations that may have orginated from the original transaction. It explores the different motives a company may have for involving themselves in a merger or acquistion and suggests that if the motive was not purely for profit maximizatin, then maybe the measure of success may be flawed.
