The Role of Science in Resource and Environmental Management in Canada
This essay argues that science is essential to Canadian resource and environmental management. This paper stresses the need for Science and for scientific research and how the latter is a challenge in a country like Canada that has vast environmental resources but a quite small population and science infrastructure. The environmental movement has made much of ethical thinking, in appeals to justice, fairness, for example, in female-centered spirituality that is said to have better valued the environment, in ways of living that do not produce such waste of resources or such damage to nature. (McIntosh, 1985). This paper argues that our thinking has to change and this must come to involve science as well as ethical concern for the environment and its management, towards efforts that are both efficient and cooperative. 10 pgs. 10 sources.
