Does the Maryland Juvenile Justice System Rehabilitate Youth Offenders
This six page undergraduate paper examines whether the Maryland Criminal Justice system is successfully rehabilitating youth offenders. The author notes that experience in Maryland and many other states has proven that a state’s criminal justice system alone cannot rehabilitate youth offenders to any satisfactory degree, for by the time a teen is arrested it is often too late to alter their anti-social attitudes. Subsequently, a comprehensive effort involving parents, schools, churches, and community leaders is required, for such combined efforts can help to prevent young people from offending in the first place by infusing positive attitudes and a healthy respect for the rights of others.
