This paper shall examine the correlation between the development of self-esteem as a token / praise seeking behavior and performance in academics as measured by grades. It asserts that children learn very early on to adhere to behavioral expectations and to receive token and praise rewards. This interest in receiving approval is expanded to grades in school.
