This paper will compare the political cultures of France and Germany. The goal of this paper is to determine the role of each state and the national identity as to compared to the other. This paper will also look at the underlying belief system of France and Germany and how they've come together as a union. With all its ups and downs the French-German friendship that evolved after WWII is a remarkable success story. Germany and France had been the European archenemies of the last two centuries, from Napoleon to WWII. In the beginning of the 19th century Napoleon occupied large parts of what is Germany today, and in a late revenge Bismarck and his emperor, William I, celebrated the unification of Germany in Versailles's Hall of Mirrors, following the French defeat in 1870.
