This essay discusses the English Revolution, concentrating on its intellectual origins, the sources of conflict, the changes it wrought and its ultimate impact on history. It begins by discussing the ideas underpinning the Revolution, these primarily being a power-struggle over issues of finance and religion. In effect, who was in control, the King or the Parliament? Subsequently, the issues that set this political tinderbox alight will be briefly explored. These include power struggles between the King and Parliament during times of internal struggles with Ireland and Scotland.
