An Analysis of Negative Representation of Disability in Modern Cinema
This paper will present an analysis of negative stereotypes that are common in Hollywood and Disney films. By observing Born on the Fourth of July by Oliver Stone and The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Gary Trousdale, we can see how physically disabled people are cast in negative and degrading classifications, which do no nothing to show how most disabled really live. By revealing the cleanliness of most disabled people and their healthy ways of life, we can see how film glorifies on the negative aspects of disability for profit.
