The topic of this paper is on the films of Ingman Bergman. The films of Ingmar Bergman incorporate many elements that together make up the unique style that the master filmmaker has become known for. These elements include a deep knowledge and understanding of human nature that manifests itself in the characters Bergman brings to the screen. Bergman is also adept at utilizing themes and motifs in his films, such as the ever-present dream sequence, which, once recognized and understood, show his work in a whole new light. Bergman's films have resonated with audiences over the years because they ask questions that are universal, and focus on the truths of the human condition that are pondered by all mankind - love, mortality, regret, sorrow, fear and so on. In the following pages, I will examine five of Bergman's films, and analyze and comment on the plots, themes and other elements utilized by Bergman in each.
