This paper will discuss the nature of identity and of the absent main character Rebecca, in the novel by Daphne du Maurier's book entitled Rebecca. IN understanding why this main character remains elusive throughout the whole book, we can begin to understand the symbolic value of character that Maurier places on Rebecca in her struggles.
