Saint-Exupery's "The Little Prince" as an Example of Children's Fantasy Fiction.
This paper will argue - through an analysis of "The Little Prince" - that fantasy fiction is a vital component of a child's growth toward healthy psychological maturity. It will be seen that Saint-Exupery fulfils this mandate in his work primarily because he never "talks down" to children. The fact that a children's fantasy narrative reflects upon a range of intellectually complex issues - from greed and madness to love and death - while maintaining its appeal for a younger audience attests to its usefulness as an educational tool in the process of children's growth. 4 pgs. 3 f/c. 3b.
