Bette Midler was born on December 1, 1945 in Aiea, Hawaii. Her mother was a movie buff and named her after Bette Davis. The young Midler had a difficult childhood as one of very few white students and the only Jewish student, in her Hawaiian school. But, through this difficulty, Midler found strength within and a respite in singing. Her most famous song, The Rose is analyzed.
