In this paper, we will discuss the implausibility of the divine command theory. At the heart of the problem with this theory is that it ties ethics to religion. In our culture, somehow these two things are often seen as inseparable. Religious leaders are usually appealed to in some capacity when dealing with various moral and political problems. Their opinions are given great weight because they are thought to be in some kind of special relationship with God that the common person does not have. We shall argue that the ethics of a human action are not determined by God's commands, or by religious leaders commands, but rather they are tied to the welfare of people. On the other hand, we will argue that God created the universe with certain moral principles, though these moral principles are independent of God's commands.
