This paper is not a book review as one would expect but rather an examination of the concept of revolution in Karel Capek's work the war with the newts. It examines whether or not Carl Marx's and Tocqueville's differing theories on why people conspire to revolt, are applicable in the case of the newts in this science fiction tale. While some comparisons are obvious the conclusion is not sure in either concept.
