This paper briefly discusses the Kantian notion of maxims using the realtively easy example of vegetarianism to illustrate exactly how it is that a maxim (the decision to act or abate) whether employed consciously or not can have a severaly profound effect upon the life of that individual. Three major points are discussed: that a maxim need not be conscious, may involve mistaken beliefs, and expresses the will of a person.
