The North Korean Nuclear Crisis: An Historical Analysis
This eight-page undergraduate paper examines the history of the North Korean nuclear weapons program and the American and international responses to it. The author notes that the United States would like to see North Korea disarmed of nuclear weapons, or prevented from developing them if they do not yet exist. But since Washington cannot be certain that Pyongyang doesn’t already have two or three bombs, and since Pyongyang has vowed to turn the region into a lake of fire if the United States takes military action against it, American policy during the crisis has been restricted to ineffective diplomacy.
