Causes of Mental Illness in the Hospital Setting: Genetics or the Environment
This undergraduate level paper examines the issue of the origins of insanity. In a clinical setting, it is difficult to determine if mental illness is genetic or environmentally caused. The paper cites studies that demonstrate that diagnosing and treating mental illness are dependent upon opinion and carry with them a permanent stigma. It concludes that mental illness can be cause by both factors and that professionals must pay closer attention to their hospital patients rather than simply maintaining their state in the institution. 6 pgs.
