This paper is a research proposal to analyze the question of how pets improve the self-esteem of disabled persons, specifically with disabled persons in a progrfam using an assistance dog. is hypothesized that the use of an assistance dog by a disabled person contributes positively to the self-esteem of that person and so to his or her emotional and psychological recovery if not to their physical recovery, though in some cases that might also be benefited because of an increased positive outlook.
