This paper shall discuss current scientific endeavours meant to establish the existence of extraterrestrial life and specifically extraterrestrial intelligences. Two methods for such a search will be considered. The first is the more traditional radio telescope search that scans certain radio frequencies for evidence of artificial signals amongst the background noise. The second is using an optical telescope to search the sky for artificial optical pulses generated by pulsed laser beams.
