Long Lasting Effects of Child Abuse Literature Review
Several studies and reports have been performed as an effort to study the long lasting effects of child abuse. This paper shall review some of these reports as they go beyond the physical and/or mental torment the child endures at the time of the abusive act, as the act sends out ripples that continue to affect the child long into their future. This topic is of deep concern to the sociological study of family, as not only is the child and their family experiencing the repercussions of the abusive act at that point and time, but the long lasting effects snowball as that child grows and starts a new family of their own, as well as creating additional problems for the grown child. Only by fully understanding these wide reaching effects can one hope to develop effect programs to help these victims cope with these sometimes devastating effects.
