Scholars have devised a number of models for understanding how nations interact with each other, although only a handful of models are used by the majority of scholars. Among the most important models in this field is the realist model. This paper explores the fundamental tenets of that model, in part by comparing and contrasting it to what is often seen as the most important theoretical challenger to this model, that of liberalism.
