She shoots, she scores: The Growth of Women's Sport in North America.
This paper will argue, the future holds the prospect that the new generations of women competing in previously male-dominated sports will shatter the barriers that have held back these athletes for decades. In the Canadian context, interest in women competing in previously "male" sports peaked with the silver medal performance of the Canadian Women's Hockey team at the Nagano Olympics. With this victory, many Canadians - and particularly the Canadian mass media - for the first time paid attention to the "novelty" of women's hockey. In reality, of course, women's hockey is far from a novelty act, as women have been playing hockey in Canada since at least 1890. 4 pgs. No bibliography provided.
