20035 Case
Study on Educational Evaluation
The case study explored an ethical dilemma an external evaluator
faced as he was hired to evaluate a new mentoring program. The
program, Bright Futures, sought to help at risk 7th graders
by instituting a mentoring program where they would be paired,
for a two year period, with high school juniors. The evaluation
was to be over a six-year period to monitor the lasting effects,
if any. At the program’s first year anniversary, the OSP Director
had the good fortune to attract the potential interest of a
philanthropist who now wants to see the benefits of the program.
The OSP Director has instructed the evaluator to produce a positive
report on the effects of the program, despite the fact that
it is much too early.

20337 Educational
Evaluation Model
Education evaluation must be accomplished to not only ensure
that the methods employed are effective educators, but also
to help develop new and/or advanced educational programs. With
the increased use of alternative forms of education, such as
online learning, these evaluations become evermore crucial.
The question then becomes which evaluation model to utilize
to garner the quality of information needed to make decisions
on the effectiveness and efficiency of the currently implemented
programs, as well as what items should be altered for future
programs. As the six classifications developed by Worthen and
and Sanders (1987) of education evaluation models differ greatly,
each has its own unique advantages and disadvantages in utilizing
them for a specific evaluation. The question then becomes, which
is most appropriate for a given situation.
