This is a creative paper about a girl who wants to lose weight
and achieved her goals. The best way to lose weight is by eliminating
snacking or eating healthy snacks. Learning to eat healthy snacks
led to weight loss for me. Just little changes in eating habits
can lead to wearing a different size in clothing. I changed
my snacking habit and lost fifteen pounds. For the first time
in years I could wear shorts and not feel uncomfortable.

16325 The Aroma
of Good Food
The aroma of good food is a special enjoyment to those who love
it. Have you ever craved a good Italian meal in a romantic setting?
Perhaps a little challenge in excitement that can be found in
Japanese food might be more to a person’s taste. Some people
enjoy the spicy, tangy meals of Mexican food. Mexican, Italian,
and Japanese foods are my favorites as they add a little spice
to the table.

16869 Low Nutrient
and Vitamin Intake as a Result of Low Calorie Intake in the
Elderly
This 17-page graduate literature review and research oral proposal
examines some current research about the link between low calorie
intake and low vitamin and mineral intake in elderly populations.
This paper also proposes a project which addresses a gap in
the literature. The literature review considers the basic debate
on the issue, which concerns the link between a low calorie
diet and low vitamin and mineral intake among elderly populations.
Some researchers suggest that low calorie diets lead to low
vitamin and mineral intake among the elderly. They point to
cases of extreme poverty, especially in the third world, where
an individual may not consume enough food to have adequate levels
of nutrients and minerals. In such situations, the elderly are
very vulnerable, because limited food resources often go to
the young and those who labour. Further, many researchers point
to levels of poverty, issues of mobility, and medications, all
of which tend to make the elderly more susceptible to adopting
low calorie diets which affect their vitamin and mineral intakes.
Other researchers point to elderly persons who consume few calories
but still have adequate mineral and vitamin intakes, suggesting
that calories alone do not determine health. This paper points
out that this topic has been considered by many disciplines,
suggesting it is an important concept. This paper offers a brief
oral research proposal which outlines a project meant to survey
and examine elderly individuals from two groups - the elderly
in homes or other institutions, the elderly living in families
or with caretakers, and those elderly who live alone - and determine
the ways that environment and knowledge affect the low caloric
and low nutrient intake of these groups. This research project,
the proposal notes, is meant to uncover the factors which affect
diets and thus nutrient and vitamin intake among the elderly.
Finally, this paper presents an outline to be used in a powerpoint
presentation, and fact sheets to be used in the oral research
presentation.

19968 A Growing
Concern: A Brief Consideration of Childhood Obesity
This 5-page undergraduate paper examines childhood obesity,
outlining the causes, prevalence, and possible solutions to
the problem. Childhood obesity has been growing significantly
since the 1970s, and has been linked to health issues as diverse
as depression, high blood pressure, increased risk of serious
disease, shortened life expectancy, and high cholesterol levels.
Studies have suggested a number of causes for childhood obesity,
including parental weight, socioeconomic status, home environment,
sedentary lifestyle, and improper food choices, to name just
a few. Researchers disagree even more significantly on possible
prevention programs. Some suggest school programs, while other
suggest parental education. Increased safety of neighbourhoods
and even smoking and alcohol-prevention programs have also been
cited as important tools to be used in combatting childhood
obesity. This essay concludes that the lack of consensus among
researchers suggests that obesity is a much larger problem that
one may initially think, and that more research is needed to
effective deal with the issue.

20289 A Small
Research Study into Low Caloric and Low Vitamin and Mineral
Intake Among the Elderly
This 8-page graduate essay considers the reasons behind low
vitamin and mineral intake among the elderly. Broadly, the study
outlined here aimed to consider the correlation between three
factors and low caloric intake among the elderly. That is, this
study firstly looked at the correlation between conceptions
of nutrition and caloric and vitamin intake. Secondly, this
study looked at environmental factors and caloric and vitamin
intake. Finally, this study examined the link between factors
of choice - such as mobility, economics, and medical necessity
- as factors affecting low calorie and nutrient intake among
the elderly. The findings of the study suggest that environment
and, most of all, support systems, create the most important
conditions for adequate caloric and vitamin intakes. The paper
suggests that closer monitoring of support systems for the elderly
and closer monitoring of environments in which the elderly reside
can help the elderly consume more calories and thus higher amounts
of vitamins and minerals.
