211. 797 Overpopulation

The world's population is growing at a very huge rate. Earth and its inhabitants are suffering from diverse problems that are caused exclusively by the man himself. These already existing problems, however, will continue to increase until finally everything completely gets destroyed. Man has always treated his native land, the Earth, its atmosphere, its bodies of water, its entire environment and its diverse life forms and species as objects, which he may simply utilize, destroy, plunder and then discard when he is through with them. Man's appetite for everything the Earth has to offer and his excessive urge to procreate will ultimately devour and destroy the planet once and for all, where he will leave nothing behind except for a dead, barren wasteland. A mere 12% of the Earth's crust is entirely available for agricultural purposes. The remainder of the planet's surface consists of areas that cannot be cultivated, such as rocky terrain, arid regions, tundra, forests and deserts.

212. 798 Adaptive Strategies

The importance of being able to adapt in life is vital especially during the ancient days of early life. This paper discusses the adaptive strategies of early ecology. The human behavioral ecology (HBE) began with the application of optimal foraging models of hunter-gatherers with resource selection and land use. Evolution ecology studies have been the adaptive design in ecological context. The HBE will be a method that will gain interest of those who are interested in ecology. How do these methods differ? The best method is by combining all of these together. "Although EP,DIT and HBE are often portrayed as competing alternatives, a case can be made for viewing them as complementary" (Winterhalder and Smith). If a person had to choose one, it would probably be the HBE because it combines the study of past ecology with the observable behavior.

The earliest societies of humans have been known to be hunters and gatherers. Many of the hunting and gathering societies are due to ecological variations. There are few typical patterns of these people. The behavior patterns of hunter-gatherers depend upon their economy. Yet, they are highly diverse. "The ecological models focus on quantitative aspects of food resources and sharing. Models may fall into two camps: ecological or ideological. These have been examined in ethnographic settings.

Canada has its share of water pollution problems, which have resulted from the conservation complexities of dealing with a complex system of interlocking waterways as well as the fact that the country is home to a number of businesses and industries that are highly polluting. It is also unfortunately the case that the nature of both national and provincial politics in the past has ensured that many businesses were not regulated as well as they would be by a government that was purely concerned with the health and welfare of its citizens
