This three-page undergraduate paper examines the Peruvian region of Tambopata, and discusses the benefits and consequences of developing this area economically. The author analyzes competing rights, and notes that economic activities such as sustainable agriculture and ecotourism offer the best of both worlds, for they would provide an economic boost to the region without imposing unacceptable ecological damage. These two economic options should have the highest priority, for they offer the greatest level of economic benefit with the least risk to the environment. This approach would be in harmony with the primary goal of ensuring that poor rural citizens have land and food security, while making it possible to reduce environmental harm.

Given the importance of energy conservation to each one of us as well as to our planet as a whole, we should each learn how to measure and assess how we use energy in our own households. This paper presents the results of a small experiment carried out in learning how to read and understand a domestic electrical meter and how an individual can use this knowledge to become a better educated energy consumer. The exact measurements that were taken during this experiment are documented in the accompanying diagram.
